Who are we?
Sickle Cell Mentorship (SCM) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals living with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) and their loved ones & general public lead fuller, healthier, and more empowered lives.
We exist because while many conversations focus on preventing Sickle Cell Disease, far fewer focus on helping warriors navigate life after diagnosis, emotionally, mentally, socially, professionally, and personally.
At SCM, we believe:
-
Sickle Cell should never define a person’s worth, identity, dreams, or future.
-
Through mentorship, awareness, advocacy, emotional support, and relatable education, we are building a safe and empowering space where warriors feel seen, understood, supported, and hopeful.

Sickle Cell Mentorship was founded by Bolade Onilari, a Sickle Cell Warrior, pharmacist, advocate, husband, father, and public speaker. The organization was born from personal experience. After seeking mentorship and support from existing organizations, Bolade discovered how difficult it was for many warriors to access timely, relatable, and practical guidance.
Responses were slow, support systems felt distant, and many emotional realities of living with Sickle Cell were often overlooked. That experience revealed an important gap; many organizations talked about Sickle Cell, but very few focused on helping warriors truly live their best lives.
SCM was created to bridge that gap.

We provide mentorship opportunities that connect warriors and caregivers with experienced warriors and professionals who understand the realities of navigating life with Sickle Cell Disease.
Our mentorship model focuses on:
-
emotional support
-
financial support
-
life navigation
-
practical guidance
-
encouragement
-
shared lived experiences
